I was excited when Michelle contacted me for her Hutchinson family photo session at her home last summer! It’s fun to photograph bigger families and I don’t often have the opportunity to go to someone’s home for a session. 🙂
We had a lot of options for photos, from the back porch steps, to the lake, to the front of the house, and even inside in front of the fireplace. Here are a few of my favorites!
When I’m photographing an extended family like this, I try to get as many combinations of people as I can. This is something Michelle & I went over before the day of her session. That way we were sure to not miss any family combinations she wanted. 🙂
There are obvious combos like the entire family and each individual family, but also grandparents with the grandkids is a special photo to make sure we get.
Planning for your family photo session
If you’re planning an extended family session, I’d recommend sitting down and writing out the combinations of photos you’d like to leave the session with. It’s helpful also to ask the other people in the group. This way if they’re wanting a specific photo we can be sure to grab that while we’re all together.
You may think you’ll remember on the day of, but it is tricky to remember and there will likely be more pressing things on your mind (like making sure everyone has clean shirts). 🙂
